Join the GMP for a hike up Mary's Rock. It is one of high points in the Shenandoah National Park and you will have some great views from there. It will be steep up to the summit.

This is a sunset hike, so we will take the shortcut to the summit. You will need a headlamp/flashlight or you could use your smartphone's flashlight.

TRAIL: 1.8 miles (parking lot to the summit) It should take us about 1 hr 30 min to the summit (3,514 ft). We will gain 1,210 ft of elevation. This hike is short but strenuous.

Join us in a scenic seven mile hike at Sky Meadows State Park, about 1.5 hours west of DC. This approximately four hour hike is strenuous in parts, with a 1,000 foot climb to the ridge, and includes hiking along the Appalachian trail.

Old Rag, a rocky mountain in the middle of Shenandoah National Park, has the 360-degree panoramas near the summit.

*** This hike is STRENUOUS. The first 2-miles are steady uphill hiking. The next mile or so requires scrambling over boulders and is exposed. The net gain from the parking lot is approximately 2,500 feet. The entire loop is 8 miles and takes about 6 hours.

Clarendon to US Capitol

We will hike from the Clarendon station (the orange line) to the US Capitol. Along the way, we will visit the following places and covering about 8 to 9 miles.

- US Marine Memorial
- National Cemetery
- Lincoln Memorial
- Dr. King's Memorial
- Tidal Basin (Cherry Blossom???)
- Washington Memorial
- US Capitol

NOTE: Since we will be near metro stations, you are free to leave and take the metro home without completing the hike.
